The entry total was disap- pointing (eight teams) and crowds were slight, but the brand of ball was excellent for the eighth annual SKB Molsons ‘Ice-Breaker’ men’s slo-pitch softball tournament at Riverside and Rotary parks on May 12 weekend. When it was all over, the big money ($900) went home with Terrace Inn for their extra-game 10-5 victory over Westpoint. As runnersup, Westpoint won $500, The organizing SKB gang took third-place money of $300. Teams were split into four- team groups for a round-robin to determine championship and consolation competitors. Fol- lowing this each section went in- ‘to double-knockout divisions. On the championship side, Terrace Inn posted two wins to earn a title berth. They downed SKB 6-1, then beat Westpoint 15-7, After their initial loss to the Inn, Westpoint dropped to ‘B’ side where they knocked off SKB 8-3 for another crack at the Inn. Westpoint beat the Inn 6-5 to set up the sudden-death final. On the consolation side, Houston won the $100 prize by winning three in a row — 27-2 over Bill’s Plumbing, 12-2 over Leblonde, and 15-6 over Rudon Rowdies.
