According to Zavaglia, owner/operator of - Northwest Fishing Guides, beautiful fish like thls Chinook would not be — available to anglers in the future if a cooperation in enforcing regulations and maintaining a responsible attitude is not encouraged by all Sportsmen. As a sponsor of the new Outdoor Observer cards, Zavaglla encou rages residents to keep an eye out for violations and to: report them as soon as s possible. - : Complete electronics © fepair services Service centre for most major brands Satelite TV systems Poois & Spas Chemicals and All Accessories North west Consolidated ~ Suppy Ltd. 5239 Keith Ave., Terrace 636- 7158 Westinghouse Sales & Service Parts Depot ’ for all makes Quasar T.V. Sportsmen witnessing a crime can report it by phone or radio telephone, but if there is no means of communication at that time the card provides a fold out form that can be used to help remember particulars, of the violation. Gordon Judzentis, owner of Water Witch Excursions and organizer for the new card, believes that the idea will help to improve conditions in the Ter- race area while creating a positive outlook by local en- ~ vironmentalists.and sportsmen. _ The Ministry of Environment circulates larger sheets relaying the same type of information, but according to Judzentis the original cards are too large and too easily destroyed when car- ried frequently. The new, smaller card form is stronger and more versatile. Judzentis saw a similar card in Alberta while visiting and felt that the same should be available in Terrace. ' Outdoor Observer cards were circulated a couple of weeks ago, and no definite response has been confirmed but it is the hope of Judzentis that the idea helps to make more hunters and fishermen aware of problems which do exist. According to Cosmo Zavagilia, owner/operator of Northwest Fishing Guides, many illegal activities, like. ex- ceeding the catch limit, are com: mitted every year and- are not. . reported by witnesses. Zavaglia [H-. feels that the Outdoor Observer’ cards complement the govern- ment’s existing observer pro- -§ gram and show ‘the concern of angling guides. ‘‘We have to be involved,” Zavaglia explained, “the fish resource is our livelihood . It’s important that we, as guides, have to be more involved than regular sportsmen,”’ he said. The Terrace and District Angling Guides encourage public involvement in. keeping ‘the rivers stocked with fish by enforcing regulations. Residents are invited to become outdoor § observers and to help keep Ter- race and area rivers usable for everyone. Softball girls back Two Terrace girls’ minor soft- ball teams travelled to distant places on the July 4 weekend, but failed in their efforts to br- ing home provincial champion- ships for their divisions. In the Peewee finals at Camp- bell River, the Thornhill Huskies lost both their games on the first. day of action. Rutland took Thornhill 15-5, Castelgar’s 7-2 win. The next day saw Thornhill lose two more games — 18-9 to Yarrow and 8-6 to Williams Lake. The four straight defeats eliminated Thornhill and gave them 12th place overall, In the Bantam finals at Castelgar, the East End Powder Blues posted two wins .on open- ing day. They downed Surrey 19-16 and beat Squamish 29-16. Day two was a complete:reversal as they lost 2-0 to Tsawwassen and 14-2 to Castelgar. With their two-and-two record, the Powder Blues placed seventh overall, ~ o¥ VOICE PAGERS % PHOTOCOPYING nas 638-8195 _#1-3238 Kalum St., Terrace, B.C.
