CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD

“The Mail Bag

It’s about the economy
and not about bears

Dear Sir:

After being witness to the way city
councillor David Hull handled himself
with the issue of stores opening on stat
holidays, I have te wonder why he would
even consider speaking out on something
as silly as not killing black bears-in order
to save the Kermode bear,

] read the article in the paper and have
to agree with Dr. Ritland, and the provin-
cial government biologists. The Kermode
bear has shown up in other regions and
scems to not be at risk at this time.

The city of Terrace is however a bit at
risk. With the forestry being what it is,
shouldn't Mr. Hull be concentrating more
on bringing new business and new indus-
try to our town?

Many people here are out of work, and
many are leaving- town. Terrace is a great
place to live and to faise a family.

I feel that the growth and success of
our town is far more important at this
time and would hope that he could focus
on it for the immediate future.

Darlene Reid, Terrace, B.C.

Brilliant corporate move

Dear Sir:

It seems every time you open the pa-
per, there's something about New Skeena.
My question is, what Skeena? This is an
on going thing, and going where. I'm told
that George Petty said that he was back
to correct a mistake. What was that?
Bankrupting Repap B.C, or the loss of all
the money. Something to think about. —

Now steps in George’s boy, Dan Ve-
niez, the man of the hour, to fix all and
make things right again. Hey, give Danny
credit. He got unions ta the table and got
what he needed. But still not good,

In steps Prince Rupert City council
and says we'll lend you twenty million,
but we ask the people first. They say yes.

Rupert council attaches some strings
to save themselves and the people of
Prince Rupert, good thing. Now what
Dan; too many strings.

Then there’s Hazelton. The town hit
hard, almost zero work with mill and bush
down. And there are also back taxes.
Mayor puts lien on equipment. ‘Smart™-.
move, but may be a little too late. Still
Til take my hat off to him.

Now the latest NDP and Kitimat Sti-
kine regional district are asking for an in-
quiry. Why? because Campbell will not
listen, Or is this the new Liberal business

plan. Start in the nosth were there’s not
much chance of hurting their party, then
filter it down into the rest of B.C.

Take a look at the Jatest contract off-
ers to the unions, Pretty close to what
Danny got. Think about it, folks. Why
would the Liberals sell te NWBC Timber
when they already know George's track

— récord with Repap B.C.

Dan, if you keep the-company brilliant
move. But [’ll lay odds you sell, Camp-
bell gets what he wants and George gets
what he wants. All from the backs of the
working people and small business of the
north. Brilliant, brilliant B.S.

No need for the horn

Dear Sir:

I am writing to the lady that honked
her horn at me on the afternoon of Aug.
27 at the Keith and Kalum intersection by
Tim Hortons.

~T-am not claiming to be the world’s
best driver, but I do know the rules of the
road, When approaching an intersection
and the light is red, you must stop, even
when making a right turn.
