Prior to defeat of the resolution stated above Mayor Laking advised that if a present offer now tein: considered by the Greater Vancouver Regional District is nut sufficient to settle the labour dispute he would be resigning from the Committee. Alderman Wright expressed the opinion that Mayor Laking should continue on 1s a member of the Committee as he would be a more effective for the City on than off the Committee and Alderman Mabbett agreed with this view. Alderman Mabbett further commented that the Greater Vancouver Regional District had been twice requested by the City to remove the contentious Health and Welfare Benefit Package from the table - as had been requested by the Union - in order to achieve a settlement but that this had not as yet occurred.
