Union leader was speaking, AF L-
CIO president George Meany,
president David Dubinsky of the
International Ladies Garment
Workers Union (ILGWU) and
others of the AFL-CIO executive
hierarchy, were voicing “un-
qualified support* of President
Johnson's war of aggression upon
Vietnam and the Dominican Re-
public: a “support” repeated by
Diefenbaker and others on Friday
of last week in the House of Com=
mons debate on foreign policy.

results ofthe recent government=
labor-management conference in
Vancouver, the current issue of
the Union Newsbulletin, organ of
the Vancouver Civic Employees
Union (Outside Workers) raises
a number of important points,

men ...(and labor’s representa-
tives) allowed to speak for only
40 minutes during the entire

dustry and who will be laid off

Demand for Govt auto
insurance follows boost

Last week’s announcement by in-
surance companies that automo-
bile users will shortly have to dig
deeper into their pockets — up
to 15 percent deeper — has brought
strong public protests. The 15
percent jump decided on for this
year follows a boost last January
which averaged 20 percent,

The Communist Party called on
the B,C, government to take im-
mediate steps to halt the projected
increase and to launch a govern-
ment-operated insurance plan to
provide insurance at cost.

surance costs have jumped one
third in the last six months, It
is becoming almost as difficult
to insure a car as it is to own one
