West Point gets Wrecked The SKB Molson Wreckers crashed their way to the top at the Inn of the West slo-pitch open tournament, but had to fight two final games with West Point Rentals to win the prize money. The action began July 4 with round robin play between the six tournament entrants. The SKB crew, was uttdefeated, trailed by Inn of the West, West Point, Kitimat, Rudon and CNR. During semi-final games in the consolation round Rudon defeated CNR to make. it to. the final consolation game, but were hen defeated by the visiting Kitimat team 13-6. Kitimat took home $200 in prize money. On the A-side, Inn of the West lost-to SKB 12-2, and then were eliminated 14-8 by West Point Rentals. Slo-pitch action intensified dur- ing the first of two championship games. Jim. Kellar hit a two-run bome run in the fourth inning to carry was named best offensive player of the tournament for the play. However, because SKB had been undefeated in round robin and semi-final play, West. Point needed to take two games from them to win the tournament. The. strain of playing nine games in two days took its toll on West Point during the final game. Trevor Shannon set the tone of _the game, quickly getting SKB on the scoreboard with three runs. Dave Kirkaldy alse played a crili- cal role for the Wreckers, gelling. 7 on base five times and‘ scoring three runs. The strong offensive Plays by SKB resulted in a 15-2 win over West Point in the first place honours, while West Point won $600 for second place. Shannon (SKB) was named best outfielder in the tournament and Danny Beaulac (SKB shortstop) was named bath best inficlder and tournament MVP, second championship game.
