FILE: 304.2 City Engineer SUBJECT: PROPCSED 30 KM/H PLAYGROUND ZONE WESTERN DRIVE - SOUTH OF EASTERN DRIVE (Traffic Committee Meeting of November 30, 1993) RECOMMENDATION: That Council approve the designation of a 30 km/hr Playground Zone speed sign on Western Drive between Easter Drive and the access road to the Hazel Trembath School plus on the access road to Hazel Trembath School from Western Drive to approximately 60 metres east. BACKGROUND & COMMENTS: The Public Works Committee considered the attached memorandum dated November 8, 1993 regarding letters dated October 29. 1993 and November 8, 1993 from Christina Allen. Traffic and Safety Coordinator, Hazel Trembath Parents Group regarding traffic improvements in the Wester Drive area near Hazel Trembath School. As Wester Drive from Eastern Drive to the school access road, runs along Eastern Drive Park and across Skyline Park, it is recommerded that this portion of Western Drive be designated as a 30 km/h Playground Zone. Also, as a furtion of the new school access road from Western Drive to approximately 60 metres east is within a road right of way and is adjacent to a park, it is recommended that the portion of the new school access road within the municipal road right of way be designated as a 30 km/h zone. The portion of Western Drive and the new school access road is to be designated as a 30 km/h zone as shown on the attached Plan 1. The Public Works Committee will be considering placement of a crosswalk across Western Drive at the new school access road when Confederation Drive is connected to Westem Drive. The request for a trail to be constructed in the Skyline Park west of Western Drive will be discussed with the Parks and Recreation Department. el. - Zgtyynacz. P.
