Traboulay Mayor er City of Port Coquitlam City Hall 2880 Shaughnessy Street Port Caquitlam, 8. C. VEC 2h8 Dear Mayor Traboulay: This is te request the removal of the tall trees planted in the median of the Lougheed Highway between Westwood Street. and Hastings Street. Sone reasons are: . , 4) Tre tall trees create 4 visual, barrier preventing people travelling east from seeing the businesses om the north side and people travelling west from seeing the businesses om the south side. These businesses need visability to compete in am ever more competitive market place. Many af the potential customers are ceming ta the businesses For the First time and have trouble finding them. Most retail businesses require a strong visual impact to bring its oreducts and services ta the attention of potential customers, and same amount of this visa~ bility is denied toa these business operators. The visability problem is getting continually worse ag the trees grow wider and thicler. The trees create an unsafe visual barrier for pedestrians. Net only are pedestrians. obscurred by the trees sa when they step ofF the median to cross the street there is mo warning but the pedestrians have to steo right omte the curb or onts the road in order to see decause the trees are so wide maw. The tall trees are an unfair hindrance to the affected businesses be~ cause gimilar medians do not have tall trees. Why should similar busi-~ messes with similar highway Frontage be treated differently? The Lougheed Highway heading east from Shaughnessy is virtually identical Avekm en in dimensions, age, and. constr nm yet the median anly has law lying 7) i oe shrubbery.
