Fin.Comm. re Business Lic.B/L fee increases From the Finance Committee, January 16th, 1976 with respect to the revisions to the Business Licence By-law recommending a simple 10% across the board increase to all sxisting licence categories. Moved by Alderman Ranger: Seconded by Alderman Thompson: That the report of the Finance Committee, January 16th, 1976 recommending an increase of 10% across the board to all licence categories existing in the present Business Licence By-law, be approved and that the necessary Amendment By-law be prepared for presentation to Comcil. Carried. Alderman Laking voted against the resolution. Prior to passage of the above resolution a brief discussion ensued regarding the fact that the fees, in some instances, are quite low, however, it was pointed out by Alderman Thompson that licencing is for the purpose of control and administration, not for revenue purposes. Mayor Campbell advised that the Senior By-law Enforcement Officer will be presenting some special licence categories for consideration of Council at a later date. Concern was exprussed by Aldermen Laking and Traboulay to the arbitrary figure of 10% being used for a fee increase.
