THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT CORUITLAM. 2272 McALLISTER AVENUE PORT COQUITLAM, B.C. ‘ TELEPHONE: 941.5411 V3C 248 : OUR FILE September 8th, 1975 Mrs. Monica Angus, Coquitlam Hospital Board, 1715 Oughton Drive, Port Coquitlam, B. C. Dear Mrs. Angus: As I'm sure you are aware the Provincial Government has recently received the completed study of fire services in- B.C. by Mr. Hugh Keenleyside. A small part of the report dealt with the treatment of fire injuries; I quote: ."B.C. is in the unhappy position of having only two well-developed _'burn centres! where those suffering from fire burns can obtain the sophistic- ated scientific treatment which is available in some parts of the world. Yet, to quote one‘of many illustrations from the experience of the U.S.A., of all the two year olds treated in hospital for second or third-degree burns over 45% of the body only 1 in 10 survives. Of the small proportion of these children who are lucky enough to be treated in ‘burn centres', more than six out of 10 survive. Because the Coquitlam Hospital will serve an area so heavily populated with young famiiies I am interested to know what kind of facilities will be available along the "burn centre" line. Further, would you know where the two centres mentioned are located. Your-comments regarding the foregoing would be much appreciated. Yours very truly, MAT: ba ° , ‘M. A. Thompson, Alderman, City of Port Coquitlam.
