CONFIRMATION OF MINUTIPS That the minutes of the meeting of the Parks & Recreation Comm'ttee held on ~Peday, August 7, 1985, be taken as read and adopted. Item No,l jP II WP.(f n4ey Metro I jotors + A request has been received by Mike McKone, the manager, of Metro Motors, to remove the tall crees from the median on the Lougheed Highway. They block the view of traffic going east, and therefore people are unable to see his display of cars. The committee felt that the trees should be left, but before taking the recommendation to council, various items would first be investigated: the annual cost of maintenance removal of tall trees replacing the area with shru'os The other question that will be look d at is whether the highways department would have to be approached in order to remove the trees„due to the fact that they initially planted them. Recommendation That we do not remove the trees from the median on Lougheed Highway. CARRIED /2. The school fields have heavy counts, as they did when we took them over. The only way to solve this would to be to re-do the soccer fields, and plant the correct grass seed. However, Bram does not feel k&i i we have a major weed problem. The committee however, did that a more systematic method of looki.ng atrequest weed counts be implemented in the future. The Parks Superintendent presently checks the weed count twice a year. ilia %II,lf Recorrunendation: That a more systematic method of grading the weed growth on grass areas be developed and utilized. As in past years, the City Council has given the room facilities i'n the Port Coquitlam Recreation Centre free of charge, and the ice charges at 508, except for the statutory holiday (Thanksgiving where they pay full rate. Helen has indicated that she would next consider being May Day co-ordinator one more year only, however, she is on vacation and will not be able to give an answer until next week.
