JUST A SAMPLE: This marijuana plant was just one of many seized after RCMP raided a home at Lakelse Lake last week. Two people face drug charges in court here as a result. Tax cuts are promised in next week’s budget TAXPAYERS ARE going to have to wait until next Monday to see details of the NDP government’s promised tax cuts for mid- dle and low income earn- ers. Mention was made of tax cuts in the March 15 Speech from the Throne by Lieutenant Governor Garde Gardom but no specifics were given, “My government be- lieves that the best way to prow the economy at this time is to stimulate consumer spend- ing by deliberately target- ing tax cuts for low- and middle-income earners,” said Gardom in the legis- — lature. Details will come forth when finance minister Paul Ramsey:; introduces _ the budget Maréh 27." The throne’ spééch is the government's oppor- tunity to lay out the gen- eral direction of legislation for the coming session. It also contained a pro- mise to “introduce targe- ted business tax cuts to encourage job creation.” “These cuts may be modest, but they will sig- nal to all players in our economy Carrying the weight of the world below your shoulders? The government, through Gardom, also said it will bring in “transparency in budgeting “It is critical that Brit- ish Columbians have the highest confidence in the budget numbers. Citizens may argue about the choices made in the budget. But they must have confidence that these choices, and the facts and assumptions behind them, are fully and fairly presen- ted, Gardom said. One significant promise is the introduction of a universal childcare pro- gram. Again, cost details and other specifics will have to wail unti] the budget is re- lease. The government also wants to strike whal it calls a balance negotiating land claims treaties, “Moving in an extreme way in any one of these areas would undermine steady, stable progress in our province,” Gardom said. | Fever 7 Out assocarionwin dase hii Co Take advantage of our exclusive offers during the Spring Fever Promotion!
