The Terrace and District Chamber of Commerce is no different with its blend of specific and gencral services. Here’s a brief rundown. | Vandal Watch |. In co-operation with the RCMP, the chamber has drawn together a _[.committee. of people to. run Vandal Watch. It offers rewards in return for information leading -responsible for vandalism. > > The program is nearly a year old and operates with a reward pool “| -of contributions from the city and from‘local businesses. A special phone line has been installed and those phoning in are given a file number. They do not have to give their names. “Awards are paid if the information leads to a conviction. The : amount varies according to the crime. - Show Your Pride "Now entering its fourth year, Show Your Pride encourages local [residents ‘to take an interest in their area and in the tourists who come here to enjoy. its various recreational opportunities. The key feature is an advertising program outlining the benefits of “tourism. Last year, Show Your Pride featured a colouring book “aimed at young tourists, It keyed on popular local and regional at- J tractions. A Whole Lot in Store -[ > Terrace’s rapid growth as the service centre for northwestern B.C, : is the foundation of this program. » It-began five years ago and has as its base a publication supported »- by the chamber, local businesses and the city. - The publication contains articles and pictures and is distributed in - {the northwest and in Ketchikan and Wrangell on the Alaskan Pan- op handle. - |. The intent is to capture the interest and encourage visits here by ‘those living in the region and on the Alaskan Panhandle. Business Development _ A partnership with the Canada Employment Centre and the Feder- al Business Development Bank has the chamber providing training and support for local businesses in this program. It is 10 months long and is open to between 20 and 25 businesses. -. Local and out-of-town instructors give a variety of courses LE highlighting important aspects of business planning and operating.
