SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR SIDEWALK WEST OF WEDGEWOOD ON SOUTHSIDE
VICTORIA

RECOMMENDATION:

Install approx. 100m of extruded asphalt curb along the south side of Victoria Dr. from the west
property line of 1160 Victoria to approx. 30m west of Wedgewood St. at an estimated cost of
$1,550.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

Attached is a letter from a resident at 4078 Wedgewood St. requesting that the Engineering
Dept. investigate the lack of sidewalk on the south side of Victoria west of Wedgewood St. The
resident is concemed with the safety of school children walking to Leigh Elementary School
along Victoria Dr.

Existing Conditi
Most of the south side of Victoria Dr. has sidewalk with the exception of the area requested and

a section from Coast Meridian Rd. east approx. 80m. The section requested for sidewalk is a
well compacted gravel shoulder.

Solutions

1) Upgrade the e- :ting gravel shoulder by installing extruded asphalt along this
section. Painting this curb white will make it visible during dusk hours. This will
create a more defined sidewalk and provide-a-safer access area for school children.
100m of 100mm asphalt @ $175/T= $1,050.00
grading of shoulder= $500.00

Total $1,550.00
Install sidewalk and curb and gutter at an estimated cost of:

100m of concrete s/w
and curb & gutter @ $175/m= $17,500.00
