June 7th, 1976 and the City Administrator advised that at the present time, the District has 64 men for an estimated population of 65,000 and although two additional men would provide a ratio of 1 to every 984 people, the City's standard at the present time, without an addition, would still be higher, as its 29 member force provides a ratio of 1 to every 896 people. Alderman Thompson then suggested, in view of the City's higher standard, that it may be possible to have some participation in the youth detail without adding a man at this time. Alderman Laking stated he supported the request of Inspector Young for an additional man as he felt a youth detail has been needed for some time, and Alderman Mabbett Stated he would be willing to reconsider the request if the addition could be moved ahead 9 months on next year’s manpower. Alderman raboulay also stated he felt the request should be supported; however, he expressed concern at the number of young recruits in the Detachment. Inspector Young agreed that the Detachment does have a number of young members, but he pointed out that there is no cost to municipalities while recruits are in training.
