Minister Recreation Paxtianent’ Buectdengs JUL 28 1975 VICTORIA, B.C. Dear Sir: AS you are mone than Likely aware by now, there was a near drowning at Rolkey Lake. It was indeed fortunate that our Recreation Director, Janna Taylor, happened on the scene and helped the swimmer to safety. This situation has brought to my attention the Lack of sagety precautions that are taken at Provincial Parks. In this instance, there was no boat on safety ring on the beach for fust such an emergency. There was only a very smake (3! by 1") sign saying that there was "No Lifeguard on Beach". Also, Miss Taylor was Shocked at the TOTAL apathy of the Park Attendant, apparently, he considered himsels completely Separated from any situation that happened in the Lake. There is a need for a mone reliable type of person at sites such as this, The Pxovinee has always made very clear the responsibivity of the Municipalities {or water Safety within their jurisdiction. T. At Surprised me to find the Lack of safety rules for your own parks. As pared people fom this area use this Lake, we wige you to Look to their sagety. ; We have some suggeszions for your. Department: 1. Post a sign, at the entrance 0% the park and at the beach advising people to never swim alone and that the lake is full of weeds and therefore dangerous. 2. A safety ring on each beach. 3. Have a boat Located at a strategic Location on the beach. - Mark out specific swimming areas with gLoats or Logs.
