Also in attendance was K. Janna Taylor, Parks 4 Recreation Director. A CONFIRNATION OF NINVTES That the minutes of the meeting of the Parks 4 Recreation held on wednesday, March 7th, 1984, be taken as read and adopted. Item No. 1 1984 Nay Day Eelen Fitch went over the schedule of events as outlined in her report. (Please see attached.) Eelen mentioned that the float is being by the students at PoCo Nigh School and thatbuilt the City will supply the materials for the students. Alderman Keryluk requested that we check into the aspect of liability for the participants in the bed race. Recommended: That we receive klelen's report for information. Item No. 2 CARPIED P.C.A.A.A. Please see attached letter from P.C.A.A.A. in which they ask City Council to recognize various persons for civic recognition. Recommended: 1. 2. Not to recognize the people identified by P.C.A.A.A. in their letter. That the City look into the aspect of a civic recognition ceremony for volunteers in the community. CARRIED Continued. The Parks s Recreation Committee decided, at this time, that they-wished to postpone a decision until a later date. Recommended: That this item be postponed until a later meeting. CARRIL'D Item tlo. 4 Genstar - Phase I Park Site Janna Taylor went over the aspect of the park site in Phase I in the Genstar Developrent and whether the Committee wished to have chain link fence around the perimeter where the houses bordered on the fence. The Committee discussed the pros and cons of having a chain link fence and decided that, indeed, they should have one. This will stop the houses encroachina on the park and the fence will also provide uniform effect, rather than the houses having different fence sizes and styles. Recommended: inform the City Enaineer that a chain link fence is requested around the perimeter of the park site in Phase I. CARRIED To Iter.. t4o. 5 Canada Day Letter from Gerry St. Germain. The Parks Recreation Committee discussed the letter from Gerry St. Germain in regard to Canada Day. & Recommended: That we send a letter to all the community associations informing them of the grant and if they are planning to get involved, they should let our department know in order that we can co-ordinate the promotion, etc. CAFRIED Continued. Item Bo. 6 Batting Cace Thompson Park A letter has been received from the Ninor Baseball Association (please see attached) in regard to installing a batting cage at Thompson Park. The cost estimate for the City to install the cement and pipe sleeves would amount to a fiaure of $ 370. The Ninor Baseball Association would be responsible for erecting the cane — Recommended: That the Ninor Baseball Association be perr.itted to erect a batting cage in Thompson Park and that the City spend 6370 to install the cement pads and sleeves. Port Coquitlam's Nay Queen, Alice Holtby, was crowned in 1916 and the tradition continues. The 1983 Nay Queen, Tammy Lanbertus will crown her successor on Saturday, Nay 12th, at the PoCo Arena following our parade. The possibility of rain aside, the Nay Day Festivities endure thanks to continued community participation and support. first In conjunction with our festival, the Coquitlam.Fine Arts Council will be showcasing their annual "Festival of the Arts".
