BACKGROUND .& COMMENTS : revere —e ——o As Council will recall the 8.C. Agsessment Authority determined that, effective in 1987, School Board property which in the past had always been tax exempt would be taxable when it is leased to other parties. As a result, some groups which had previously not been charged property taxes were charged for the first time this year. Council has the authority under section 400 of the Municipal Act to exempt these properties from taxation, to do so requires a by-law passed with a two-thirds majority. It is not possible at this time to pass 4 by~Law exempting for 1987, to be effective a by~law to exempt for 1988 taxes must be passed by the end of August 1987. gs a copy ef an application for exemption received from PoCo Happy Times Preschool as well as ccepies of a report sent toa Council last year when this first The amount of property taxes levied in 1987 on the PoCo Happy Times was. just over $86.00 (our share $42.00) and on Simon Fraser Society $2,438.00 (our share $1,172.00).
