RECOMMENDATION:

1. That the Parks & Recreation Department be authorized to hold a
fireworks display on October 3ist, 1983, on George Pearkes
soccer field. -

2. That the Port Coquitlam Fire Department personnel ignite the
_ fireworks.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS =

The Parks & Recreation Department is hosting a family Halloween at
Hyde Creek on October 3lst, 1983. There will be a costume parade,
booths for children, i.e. bobbing for apples, swimming, family
dance and, hopefully, fireworks. The Halloween celebration is
being put on by the City to provide an enjoyable alternative for
the community. Many parents are being much more cautious about
allowing their children to go out on the streets trick or treat-

ing.
’ The fireworks display has been discussed with Jim Boileau, City
Fire Chief and he supports the concept. The Fire Department would

ignite the fireworks in the middle of George Pearkes field with
the spectators across the street at Hyde Creek.
