After our official meseting ig underway she will present her slides and talk about her work, after eight. (See Workshops). CERAMICS '8l The Guild's annunal show will be held once more in Robson Sq. Media Centre, May 19-31, 1961. This year we plan to feature three areas. Two will be juried: 1. Functional 2. Non-functional or Decorative. Thirdly will be the Invitational area. Potters may submit tnree pieces each for the juried sections please keep this in mind as you unload your kilns this win- ter. We need people to help on the exhibition committee so please call, Marjorie Johnson at 261-1681 if you can spare some mo- ments. More information later. NOTES TO MEMBERS: SEPTEMBER GENERAL MEETING After an enjoyable social and library hour (the new social committee is to be congratulated!) The Susiness Meeting came to order, during which; l. A letter from Debra Sloan was read to the members, in which she thank- ed all the potters who had contributed work and help to the CASC sale on @Ranville Is., and thanked the Guild for the use of the Hycroft atands. 4. Diane Carr and Gail Rogers from the CABC, explained some ideas they have concerning their new office spece on Granville Is., and pre- sented a proposal concerning the Potters Guild making use of this space by sharing secretarial expenses and having a phone in their affice. At that time they had no estimate of the costs involved; it was getting late, and there was no time for a general discussion. Therefore the matter was left to wait for more specific information time for discussion. AGENDA FOR OCTOBER 15 GENERAL MEETING 1. The Hycroft posters will be given out to members from various areas, to be posted two weeks before the sale date, Nov. 21. 2. PROGRAMME Denys James gave a slide presentation of his work followed by a dem his hand-building techniques. while Denys showed his slides, (he had interenerecd some Close-ups of lichen growing on rocks, which related so well to his pieces) and talked about his way of working, his philosophy, his straight-forward and hon- est approach to clay came through to the audience. His handbuilt raku pieces hia salt-glaze pieces--all have a quality of the earth; seem elegantly simple and yet complex in that his methods stretch the clay to its limit of strength and of bal- ance. Salance. That's the right word. Later, when he demonstrated his building techniques with clay, there again was the balanced simplicity and complexity that we'd seen in the slides--stmple slab pieces easily thrown out, torn and re joined,
