TERRACE — Quality educa-
tion and job opportunities are
high priorities . for northwest
young people, say two represen-
tatives of the New Democratic
Party’s youth organization.

They accused the federal
Tories and provincial Socreds
of introducing ‘‘an avalanche of
anti-youth legislation.”

In particular, High and Lynn
said the two governments aren’t
providing enough. money for
colleges and universities.

They said the problem is par-
ticularly serious in- the nor-
thwest, where students have few
education alternatives. High
said northern B.C. youth who
want better education and jobs
are forced to leave their com-
munities and move south.

‘And after getting an educa-
tion, the average students comes
away with a $12,000 student
loan debt,’” he added.

Helmut Giesbrecht, the
NDP’s provincial election can-
didate in Skeena, echoed their.
