Terrace oldtimer is remembered

John McCarran passed

away on August 18, 1999,
He was 85 years old.

John was born in Bolly-
loskay, in Northerri Ireland
on September 24, 1913, His

family were farmers,
His parcats Dan and

Margaret) McCarron had.
seven children, all born in

Ireland.
John's father decided to

leave (he country so the fa-

mily moved to’ the: United
Slates, where he got a jab
working for a construction
firm in Boston, 22 2.

In 1927, the family came
to Canada. John was’ 14
years old .

The family settled in
Edson, Alberta and home-
steaded.

During the early 1930s,
or the Hungry 30s as-he re-
membered them, John
picked up add jobs: wher:
ever he could. He rode the
rails back and forth across
Canada looking for work
and stopping at different
farms and working over
harvest time.

In 1935, John who’ was
su single, came*to Ter-
race. First he got a job’ at
Giggey’s mill working as a
labourer and: eventually
becoming a sawyer.

In 1937, he met a lovely
lady named Delores Cra-
mer, They fell in love and
were married on September
22, 1937 al the United
Church in Terrace on La-
kelse Avenue.

After they were married,
they went to their little
cabin on Cramer Avenue to
celebrate their ‘wedding.
And two of their eight
children, Allan and Alma,
were born there,

Several years tater, they
decided to move to Victor-
ia, John was a rigger al the
shipyard. While in Victor-
ia, their son Len was born.

After about three ycars
of living in Victoria, the fa-
mily moved back to Ter-
rice.

John went to work as a
carpenter: building army
buildings. But the. family

made: another: move to

ren were born: Jimmy, Dar-
reli. and Eugene.

But Terrace kept drawing
them back. So hack to Ter-
race. they came. John went
to-work for Dale Contract-
ing Logging. They first lived
in the Keith Estate fora
while, then: moved to their
home on Jackpine Flats.

While living in Jaeckpine,
John-and Delores hind two
more children: Judy and

. Chance. They lived seven

miles’ out on Old--Lakelse -

Lake Road at the site-of the

-Fraybour Mill, where.Johin -f

had also worked for a time.

After John tost -his be-
loved wife Delores, “he
went to live with his’son

John’s funeral service

_was held on Monday, Au-

gust 23 at Mackays Funeral
Chapel,

A small service was held
at Terraceview Lodge on
September 12 far resiclents
and family. It was ofticiated
by Marvin Vault.

John leaves behind his
children, grandchildren
and great grandchileren.
Those children tiving in
Terrace are: Rick, James,
Darrell, Eugene, Chance
and Judy. His son Len lives
in Fraser Lake and his
daughter Alma lives in Ke-
lowna,
