» - la ™ Expectations _ “exceeded Twenty-two year old Kevin Maki _ has completed his four-year ap- ' _ prenticeship in Commercial Trans- _ port Mechanics. Maki, originally ~ from Salmon Arm, has lived in . Terrace for the past ten years. Now. he and wife Lora call it home. An employee of Farwest Fuels since 1985, Kevin was ‘signed up for his apprenticeship in 1987, and credited back to 1986. Kevin began his career with Far- west as a high school student _ washing buses for the company on a ‘part-time basis (and hanging around the shop in his spare time). After he graduated from Cale- donia, he proceeded into the shop. District manager Dave Storey explains, "Once we saw how inter- ested he was in the mechanics end of things, he went into the shop as a helper and quickly became an " mechanical apprentice. He has met and even excceded all our expecta- tions!" | | | . Kevin obtained his inter-provin- ‘cial ticket in Commercial Trans- _ port Mechanics on March 31 of He bas recently registered at . this year. He also has the added qualifications of natural gas and propane vehicle installation tickets. Northwest Community College for a commercial inspection certificate. Dave Storey hopes to sign him up for a course in computer techno- logy in vehicles in the not-too- distant future. . Storey goes on to say that Kevin is quick and efficient. He’s done approximately 300 natural gas or propane conversions himself and has extensive experience rebuilding engines. He shows the potential to eventually become a shop foreman ' or management.
