POCOMO TEEN CENTRES SOCIETY 4.2 Proposal - July, 1993 PROGRAMMING The programming for the PoCoMo Teen Centre will be determined by the PoCoMo Teen Council. A system will be established for finding out what programming the membership requires. Leisure Programs The primary focus of programming will be leisure and recreation programs. Programs will be of three types: . drop-in the Centre will be available for youth to drop in and use facilities such as video games, pool tables, fooz-ball, or listen to music and watch T.V. or videos; . structured programs will be offered through co-sponsorship with community agencies; all these will take place in the Centre; they might include dances, movie nights, game nights and tournaments, pizza parties, dance classes, fitness, weight-training and self-development programs; . outreach activities will be organized which take place outside the centre; these may be visits to events (PNE, concerts, ice skating, etc.), or may simply be sports activities such as participation in a softball league. They might also include outdoor educational trips, camping, carceing, and rock clir 1g. FACILITY REQUIREMENTS The purpose of the Teen Centre is to create a safe, supportive environment for teens. Ideally, space requirements include the following: -wheelchair accessibility, facilities for visually and/or hearing impaired teens -large recreation rcom/gym for pool table, fooz-ball, video games, dancing -lounge with T.V. stereo -kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave -counselling/administration offices -two bathrooms -blacktopped area for outdoor recreation activities (i.e., basketball) -grassed area -computer/quiet room -childcar: ‘acilities for children of teen parents {TEM | PAGE 4
