The Corporation of the Dillage of Dazelton P.O. BOX 40, HAZELTON, B.C VOJ1YO PH. 842-5991 FAX 842-5152 2) suggest revisions or corrections that would strengthen the "Framework's” mandate; 3) adopt the "Framework" by motion and make a written request to the Premier and Minister of Forests to amend provincial legislation accordingly; 4) circulate the "Framework" to the media and public interest groups that would help to advertise its purpose. lf there is a lesson that can be communicated from our experience with trying to improve forest stewardship practice, it is that any group of concerned residents of B.C. have the ability to instigate fundamental change in the way governments affect our lives and the land. The process - of seizing the agenda, not simply responding to the arcane whims of a. bureaucracy in a state of confusion, is tremendously empowering. It is an experience that has taken long hours, and has brought some amount of - criticism that a local government has stepped out of its normal. realm of jurisdiction. But it has also shown us that there is astounding support for an effort that provides leadership where there is a vacuum. | Responsibility for the well being of a community does. not stop at town boundaries. The strengthening of our ties to the land, to each other, and to the surrounding environment that will provide employment for our children is the guide for the action we have taken. We would like to thank you in advance for the time you take to review and support the "Framework For Watershed Stewardship". It is our sincere hope that together we can evolve many similar means by which the quality of life and environment in British Columbia can be enhanced. oo Yours truly, Cc Alice Maitland
