THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM December 14th, 1978 iN REPORT TO: Mayor and Council C ¢ \ Committee EC 13 3 REPORT FROM: Leisure Activities ITEM NO. 1 — Figure Skating Carnival The Port Coquitlam Figure Skating Club wishes to hold a Figure Skating Carnival on February 16th and 17th, 1979. They anticipate having one show Friday evening and two shows on Saturday, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. In order for the Carnival to take place, it will be necessary to cancel Public Skating on the Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and evening. The other associations using ice time would not be affected, as we would change them over to the New Arena and give them the Public Skating time which the City has. Furthermore, the Figure Skating Club is prepared to pay their normal rental fee for the time used. The Committee feels that this type of Carnival would be most entertaining for the people of Port Coquitlam. Recommendation: The Committee recommends that the Port Coquitlam Figure Skating Club be given permission to hold their Carnival on February 16th and 17th, 1979; and that their hours be Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday, from noon to 10:00 p.m. In addition, that they also pay the x i i H i g 4 : 3 rental charges for these hours. ITEM NO. 2 - Hosting of B.C. Summer and/or Winter Games The Conmittee received a letter from the District of Coquitlam outlining a resolution that the Parks and Recreation Director form a Task Force with the City of Port Moody and the District of Coquitlam to explore the feasibility of jointly sponsoring a future B.C. Summer/Winter Games. The Committee would like to recommend that the Recreation Director, Janna Taylor of Port Coquitlam be assigned to the Task Force to explore the possibility of jointly sponsoring the B.C. Summer/Winter Games at a future date. Furthermore that we so inform the District of Coquitlam and the City of Port Moody of the resolution adopted by Council. cont. Page 2...
