Kayla Yagelniski and ‘Caitlin Robertson also con- tributed to the community through the leadership class. The girls hosted the annu- ‘al food drive for the school, and raised about 600 non- perishable food items. . “We felt it was necessary . to reach out to the unfortu- ty around this time of year,” says Yagelniski. _ “We collected way more than we thought we would.” “If I had to describe the class in five words, I’d say they were a class of inspir- ing, humble, amazing, re- ", Spectful youth, ” says Kai- Sen . “People are starting to. find their passions, and dur-. . ing the ‘next four. weeks,. - we'll be out in the communi- ty doing more activities, the amount we’ ve accomplished is amazing.” The leadership class ~ has also. made a trip up to Terraceview ~Lodge, cre- ated a self-esteem team, an anti-bullying team, a buddy system where teens from Caledonia go to ET Kenney and help out the K-3 stu- dents, and the list goes on. “It’s just amazing how a big group of kids can come up with such brilliant ideas to help out the community, and not just worry about themselves,” says leadership — student Shalane Pauls. So, although we teenag- ers may sag our pants, and © listen to loud music, we still don’t mind getting our hands dirty every once in a while. Being a part of the leader- ship class has been so much fun, and it’s given a lot of us the confidence we needed to take on something we normally would only dream ‘about. ’ T think it can safely be said that every student in that class will come out feel- — ing like they’ ve made an im- pact, big or small, on some- one else’s life. And that truly is something of which they can be proud.
