When a buddy from Hazelton couldn’t get time off from work to play on a New Zealand softball team, Neufeld was there to Gill in for him. "He was really choked about not going but he arranged for me to go instead,’’ said Neufeld, 4 23-year-old Chevron Juniors pitcher, Neufeld left last Thanksgiving to play on a Queenstown team in New Zealand, intending to play the full season from October to April. When he talked with his New Zealand coach a few weeks ago, Neufeld was assured a place if the coach can get a team together. “T definitely want to go back,”’ said Neufeld. ‘‘It’s really like home - after the game, everyone gocs down for a beer and hangs out.”’ Last year Neufeld worked for his Kiwi coach doing carpentry and bartended for the pub that sponsored the team.
