Lack of transport. not acceptable Don Lockstead, New Democrat M.L.A. for Mackenzie, has described as “entirely unacceptable” the response of Transport Minister Jack Davis when questioned in the Legislature as to why the Queen of Prince Rupert cannot stop at Ocean Falls. Recently, Mr. Davis could not explain why the Queen of Prince Rupert sits idle and fully crewed at Topaz Bay on northern Vancouver Island while the community . of Ocean Falls is without shipping service due to the breakdown of the motor vessel Lumba Lumba. The question was put to Mr. Davis by Mr. Lockstead during question period. “I fear we have gone from bad to worse,” Mr. Lockstead commented later, ‘‘At first the Social Credit government displayed simple Ignorance of the shipping crisis on the central coast. Now they are demonstrating outright arrogance. The reply of Mr. Davis shows that Social Credit does not care about Ocean Falls and the other coastal communities which are denied shipping ser- vice.’’ Mr, Lockstead said that, while he. will continue to press the government to take action, it has become apparent that coastal residents must not relax _their protests against the negligence of the Social Credit government. ‘‘More action than ever is needed,” he said. Cyril Shelford in his bid to obtain adequate lighting for High- way 16 through Terrace from the Dudley Little Bridge westward. . : Rowland wrote Shelford expressing his concern about the lighting problem on Highway 16 as mentioned above noting that motorists cross a well lit bridge allowing their eyes to adjust to these ideal conditions. However, when they leave the bridge they suddenly plunge into darkness. Drivers facing this sudden change find it very difficult to see and the condition creates a traffic hazard, especially when it rains. Shelford has written to the Minister of Highways and Public Works, Alex Fraser, asking him to look into this matter and take action before, as Shelford states, someoneis killed walking on the road.
