ORT COQUITIAY Jim Maitland City Treasurer Doug Riecken Acting City Engineer Coquitlam River Internal Drainage Works Attached is an excerpt from a report prepared for the City by Associated Engineering. They have identified certain drainage works which they feel Should be completed by tha City in conjunction with the construction of the fiood box and closure dyke by the Ministry of Environment. Essentially what they are saying is that we should at least install the concrete works for a pumping station as part of the floodbox construction to save costs, and thar to guard against flooding behind the dykes when river levels are high we should also install the pumping equipment and dredge the slough to provide additional storage. These works will be required as and when the Ministry proceeds with their work. They are in a position to construct the flood box this year and will likely do so. This would mean that we should at least install the concrete works for the pump station and dredge the Slough at an estimated cost of ($26,000 + $58,000 + $50,000)x 1.3 = $174,200. To complete the punp station would cost an additional $225,800 for a total cost of $400,000. The latter work could be deferred until the closure dyke is constructed. Since we do not yet have the righe of way for the closure dyke, it is not certain whether this work will proceed this year or not. In order to carry out this work we would need at least $175,000 this year to construct the pump station base and an additional $225,000, possibly this year, but more likely next to complete the pump station and dredging. Could you advise as to how this work could be funded? D.G. Riecken, P. Eng. Acting City Engineer
