SUBJECT: Fraser Valley Regional Library Budget

RECOMMENDATION:

That Port Coquitlam Support the proposed 1990 budget of the Fraser V alley Regional
Library Budget.

BACKGROUND & COMMENTS:

Attached are documents which Support the proposed budget. There will be a Board

meeting prior to our next regular Council meeting and some direction from Council is
required so that I can give the appropriate advice to the Board.

The proposed budget includes substantial increases in costs, mainly due to items which

were approved by previous Boards, which take effect in 1990, ie new computer lease and
maintenance as weil as increased professional staffing.

As you will note, the proposed budget includes an increase of 16.75% in the total levy for
the City, which if offset by increased growth, will mean that the individual taxpayer will
pay approximately 9% more for library services than they did in 1989.
