Kirk, City Administrator FROM: K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director SUBJECT: 1989/1990 Summer Games ~eee ee eae ea e ee m et m f8 e Setrestn et Stet et eg nen a ee Recommendation: That the City of Port Coquitlam not make application for. the 1989/1990 Summer Games. | Background § Comments; | Gouncil, at the October: 7th, 1985, meeting passed a resolution to submit an application for the 1989/1990 Summer Games; however, at that. time, Council was under the impression that the deadline for applications was October 20th, 1985, We have since been informed that the application deadline has been extended to November 15th, 1985. -The Parks & Recreation Committee has had an opportunity to review the proposed budget and also review the facilities. The attached. budget indicates that the City's contribution would have to be $218,507 in 1989 figures. The City's contribution is . conservative in that only $105,455 has been allocated for the upgrading of facilities. Facilities that will require upgrading: Grass fields for field hockey and track and field at George Pearkes. The Committee is of the strong opinion that an application should not be made until we have a better idea of when certain athletic facilities would be completed at Reeve Street Park as this would make our submission much more attractive, | ) a AE / a aS /K«< Janna Taylor, "Parks & Recreation Director, KJT/bh FYE Sal tN rt
