APR 50 1973 TO: Mayor and Council DATE: April 27, 1973 FROM: Recreaticn Facilities Committee The Committee met with representatives of the School Board on Thursday evening, April 26th, 1973 to discuss joint School City participation in recreation facilities construction. This Committee has already reported to Council on the facilities planned for the recreation referendum proposed to be held in June of this year. The Committee is seeking the co-operation of the School Board in cost sharing on : the construction of the swimming pool phase of the construction program. The Committee has reached an agreement with the School Board on a fifty/fifty cost ; sharing scheme on the full cost of the swimming pool which amounts to approximately i $700,000. The joint Committee discussed a number of aspects relating to the ! construction, management and operation and programming of this facility once it has been constructed and will report further to Council in this regard. At this time the School Board require a resolution of Council requesting joint participation in the capital cost of the project so that they can approach the Department of Education for approval. The School Board wili be dealing with a similar resolution at their meeting on Tuesday, May lst, 1973. The Committee recommends to Council that a resolution be paseed requesting that the School Board participate on a fifty/fifty basis in the capital cost of constructing a swimming pool on City owned land north of the George Pearkes School site and that the School Board present a joint agreement for Council's consideration covering the construction and operating of this facility. In addition, that the Recreation Facilities Committee of Council continue to negotiate with the School Board with respect to operating, management and programming of the facility. LDP :da
