Re: Disposition of Fines ~ Federal Statutes SEP 25 1972 Sams

We attach hereto a copy of a memorandum from Mr. D.C. Reed, Solicitor for the District
of Coquitlam, dated Seprember 6th, 1972 concerning the above-noted subject and you will see

that it concerns those cases before the Courts where the fines are not paid to the munic~

Apality but to either the Provincial or Federal Governments. As Mr. Reed points out, we

We are really of the opinion that writing to the Provincial and Federal authorities |

2 is merely. a. matter of form, and that our request will be.rejected and we would: suggest that |

if this indeed proves to be the case, we should forward resolutions to the 1973 Conventions

of both the Canadian Federation of Mayors and Municipalities .and the Union of British

Columbia Municipalities in order that the municipalities in British ‘Columbia and Canada

may speak to ‘the Senior Govermments with a united ‘voice. . ‘ ° a, ”
