Ceramics is feeling the ‘recession’. Sales have been down, costs have been higher, and the margin in between has shrunk. Nor- mally, revenue from the Gallery and revenue from memberships collected by the Guild allows the Board of Directors to fulfill its educational mandate. One of the programmes we have carried out in the past is to make awards available to students finishing their second year ata college or an accredited ceramic pro- gram. At the same time, we have been putting money aside, with the eventual aim of having this money be a self- sustaining account for the awards pro- gram. Unfortunately, due to falling revenues and low interest rates, the Board has regretfully decided that the Guild will be unable to offer the annual awards in 1993. Should the Board achieve its goal of charitable status, reinstituting the Olea Davis and David Lambert Annual Awards program will be a first priority.
