AG - The Terrace Standard, Wednesday, November 3, 1999 CORRESPONDENCE FOR THE TERRACE STANDARD The Mail Bag They deserve better Dear Sir: lam writing in response to the column “Three Un- comfortable Hours”, wril- ten by Claudette Sandecki on Sept. 15, I work at Terraceview Lodge and when ..| “first... read this columns | was tempted to write a jong list: of all the things that ‘are done to make the residents lives as fulfilling as pos- sible, However, upon further recollection I believe that our work needs no defend- ing, and anyone Spends any reasonable -amount of time al who | the Lodge will sce the dedica- tion of staff and family members. — What I feet must be ad- dressed is the lack of re- spect piven to the elderly people: MWho.live at.Terra-. ceview Lodge. | am sure it is easy-to only look. at - “people by what their phy- sical capabilities are,* but itis a’ poor reflection: of - someone's true nature, ’ Many. of the residents of the Lodge are the founding members of not only this town, but the whole north- west, not ta mention that more than one resident will likely see the start of two centuries, ’ For this reason, and many others, I find it ex- tremely upsetting that any- one would ‘dare to’ feel _superiortoany resident simply because their body parts work more. efficicnt- lye * Tt is a privilege lo care for the elderly in.this com- munity, and they deserve every aunce of respect we can give them. Vickie Kornelsen, Terrace, B.C, Disappointed at no forum Dear Sir; 1 was disappointed that candidates for school trustee in Terrace will not be included in cither of the two proposed candidate forums in which Tke Ter- race Standard is involved. Tam asking The Ter- race Standard and the other organizations in- Running for the wrong body Dear Sir: Frank Hamilton is run- ning for city council and that concerns me. He left the school dis- trict with a very expensive severance package. As I recall, it was very nearly $250,000 when the district was carrying a tremendous debt. Mr. Hamilton, as se- nior staff, must take some responsibility, 1 worry Mr. Hamilton will create the same mess for the city if elected, 1 also question his com- mitment to municipal is- sues when his ads say one of his main focuses would be health care. 1 would like to hear what he is going to do about the condition of our streets, the Braun’s Island sewer siluation and our ex- tremely high taxes, These are the municipal issues that he would be in a position to do something about, If he is so interested in health care and the de- livery of it, why isn’t he putting his name forward to sii on the community health council, rather than on city council? Marguerite Clarkson, Terrace, B.C. volved to reconsider and include. candidates for school trustee. (Editor’s note: Unfortu. nately, there wasn't enough time within the two forums lo feature the school dis- Irict race, One forum atone had to be devoted to the-city court: cil race because of the 7] people running for six seats. The second forum was divided into two parts for a manageable evening fee- turing the three mayoral candidates and the five people running for three seas, With only four people renning for three school distric! seats, something -had.to give and so the deci- sion was made,) Hal Stedham, Terrace, B.C. i Steak & Seafood Grill [Bavarian Inn} _PLANNING YOUR arbre party. . “LOOK NO.
