Timea the entertainment. The first Canadian Gid- eon Bible was placed in the King Edward Hotel in Toronto in 1911. Since then Canadian Gideons have placed and distrib- uted over 20 million Bibles and New Testaments in- ternationally. Beautification society tours city TERRACE — The Ter- -race Beautification Socie- ty recently took a bus tour of Terrace to inspect the areas that had come up in meetings. The group decided to go on the tour during their meeting on Nov. 14. by Philip Musselman TERRACE — All high- ways in the Terrace area were reported to be com- pact with slippery sections during the snow storm which occurred on Nov. 18, 19 and 20. Highways District Manager Bill Stanley explained that the Terrace highways branch is responsible for maintenance of roads to Rosswood, Kitimat, the eastern part of Highway 16 to Prince Rupert and other surrounding roads. All the Ministry’s equip- MIent was out running along with six hired graders clearing an average of a foot and a half of snow. All roads were kept open except the highway to Prince Rupert, which was closed for short periods of time on Nov. 19 and 20. The highway was a closed because of near oe zero visibility. oo The storm calmed down on Nov. 20, leaving the highways department time to direct attention to the side roads. Compared to other years, the storm brought a lot of snow. “It’s probably the most snow this early in the year : since 1980,’’ Stanley com- mented. ‘‘This storm does, not touch upon the severeness of heavier snow seasons about ten to 15 years ago,’ Stanley said, “but it is definitely cause to be prepared when driv- ing.”’ Stanley advised drivers to be cautious and to carry a shovel, a blanket and thee | other emergency gear, just . The society is planning to do some planting along Highway 16 West in order to make the entrance to the city more pleasing to the eye. The current plans involve concentrating on access roads to help at- tract next year’s tourists to the community. During the ride aboard a donated Farwest bus, which was driven by a volunteer driver, the group got a closer, more definite idea of what their spring plans would bring about.
