Pe COLUMBIA Isabelle Longnus, singer, composer, songwriter, has established her position as one of the leading personalities in the Francophone cultural milieu in Western Canada. As one of the recipients of the “Prix Etoile Galaxie”, Isabelle has also released three solo recordings and a dozen compilations, video-clips and other co-operative productions. In the context of the Coup de cceur francophone, and especially for the Centre culturel francophone de Vancouver, she wrote and composed a rock opera called “Le soleil brille a Coquitlam” in 2001, before putting her signature on the stage direction of the show in honor of Jacques Brel called “Tas voulu voir Vancouver”. The producer of numerous films, documentaries and television series, Isabelle Longnus has been a nominee and a recipient of many prizes in the performing arts, audio recording and film. In 2005, between her tours through Europe and Canada, she will offer us a show that was specially created for the 16'" season of the Festival d’été francophone de Vancouver. “War Songs for Peace” With this new creation, Isabelle’s show will commemorate the 60 anniversary of the end of the Second World War and the liberation of the survivors in the concentration camps. This poignant performance shows all the many kinds of suffering caused by armed conflict, whether it is the suffering of soldiers on the front line or of victims who may be far from the actual battleground. For example, she relates the grief of a mother who weeps for the son she has lost as well as the hopefulness of a soldier who wants to marry on his return home... “Chansons de guerre pour la paix” is a collage of original compositions and melodies written from the 16" century to the present, such as “Le chant des Marais”, a song written in a concentration camp during the Second World War and sung by so many of the people who were deported, or again, an adaptation of a very old song “Malbrough s’en va en guerre”. This voyage to the heart of history, sung and narrated in French, English, Italian, Spanish, German and Hebrew, evokes a painful past, and nevertheless carries the hope of a vision of peace for this new millennium. The powerful lyrics in this work with its modern feel make the show very moving. Come out to see Isabelle Longnus on the stage once again, at her most sensitive and provocative, along with her accompanying musicians and a choir of voices to carry her call for remembrance and her message of peace.
