CORMENTS = The Planning Department conducted a brief survey of parking requirements for suburban areas outside Vancouver. The provision of parking shown above is suggested as a standard to meet parking needs for areas where residents require a car for most trips. Parking requirements being proposed are to treat townhouses as having similar needs to single family dwellings. For apartments a higher parking requirement is proposed for three bedroom suites. This is because a higher occupancy is expected in larger suites. That will lead to more cars. Apartments are defined as: multiple storey buildings where suites exit into a corridor rather than individual exits to the outside. Amendments are being proposed for single family dwellings and residences attached to stores. The amendments are to bring the regulations in line with current practice of having two parking stalls for each single family or owners residence attached to a store. Experience with Senior Citizen Apartment projects over the past, has led to a proposed change increasing parking for senior citizen projects. For Senior Citizen projects located outside shopping areas where there is transit, it is necessary for residents to use their car. In those cases parking for each suite is to be provided. For projects in commercial areas having transit a lower parking requirement of (1) one stall for (2) two suites is proposed. This standard is higher than current requirements of (1) one stall for each (5) five suites. UZ, W. Brown Director of Planning WB/k11 ID231FILEOQO4-—23
