i 1 t 4 i THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM ay 7 MEMORANDUN JAN 3 1 1983 TO: B. Kirk, January 26, 1983 City Administrator FROM: FeoE. Peters., P. Eng.; City Engineer SUBJECT: Parking at Leigh Square - Public Works Committee, January 25th, 1983. RECOMMENDATION: That the parking along the south side of the Leigh Square Medical: Center be. changed ta ellow one handicapped parking space at the east end and two 15-minute loading spaces at the west end of the row of parking stalls and that an asphalt ramp be built up to the sidewalk at. the east end to allow for convenient access by wheelchair patients. BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: The Leigh Square Medical Center hes made a written request for space for the handicapped as well as a patient loading zone. This request was made as a result of suggestions during a Downtown Revitalization Committee meeting held last November. Because the Leigh Square parking is generally full during the day, handicapped patients sometimes have a fair distance to walk in order to get to the Medical. Center. The recommended loading spaces in front of the pharmacy would allow for drop-off or pick-up of patients while the handicapped Parking space would allow for thase who drive themselves to be. able to park close to the Medical Center. There is space available at the east end of the parking toa allow for the construction of a ramp onto the sidewalk and plenty of room for maneuvering a wheelchair. F.E. Peters., P.
