arn + CONCLUSIONS ne PD "Ae 2.: Ze ae Se 6. in the northern end of Port Coquitlam and the northeast So many factors exist not favoring consolidation at this time that it must be concluded that the two fire departments are not ready to entertain the idea of immediate consolidation. Sufficient factors exist favoring consolidation to make it appear that the need is there, and that consolidation is perhaps inevitable. ; If consolidation is to take place in he forseeable future there are steps that can be taken now to facilitate the change. Both departments should plan separately and together to move in the direction of consolidation. There is a need for firm and clear direction from the two ' Councils so that guidelines can be established within which both departments can make plans for the future. A first order of business would be to set a target date for the consolidation of the two departments. It is the recommendation of this committee that that date be no earlier than July 1, 1975; and no later than December 31, 1975.6 As an interim measure a resolution of the protection dilemma section of the District of Coquitlam is essential. Steps taken to provide the needed fire protection in these areas will clearly indicate the direction.in which we are moving. . f] ‘ ~ . PENN a ee et
