Phil Bialobzyskl He said the two-semester program, which in- cludes a practicum component, is broad enough to equip students for employment in the northwest but also specific enough that students could, if they wish, move on to take more specialized courses. “We're finding that computer education and training is very helpful in a competitive job market,” Bialobyzski added. The start of licensed practical nurse training at the college in January 2002 came after a concentrated lobbying effort. Northwest Community College hadn't had any nurse training programs since it stopped a registered nursing program in the early 1990s. Mills Memorial Hospital here hired a good number of the first graduating class, an indication of the value of having such a program in the northwest, said Milner. “We're pleased ta know those grads are doing well,” she said. The hospital and other health care facilities are a key part of the nursing program because they provide practicum placernents for the students. Those place- ments are required for graduation. qe eb ect CAR For more Information, visit wew -healthcheckorg or call tha Haart and Stroke Foundation a 1.BB8-HSF-INFO Health Check... tolls youit’s a healthy choice e Facts about — —. —_, | $ Billion 3 of ~. @ Nurses received a 23.5% wage increase over three years, including a 13% increase in the past year © Health support workers in BC are the highest. paid i in Canads, oe * Compensation for doctors increased 20,6% last year ~ with wages up to 30% above the national average | - 2000/01 _ J Hospitals and facilities J Rural health J Prevention and health promotion Gemm ) ‘S18 Heading | ‘BACK TO SCHOOL « Friday \ e Saturday ons! ¢ Sunday ‘Save The Equivalent Of The “Open Sundays Where Quality Makes A Difference Boutiques ae ee ~~ Noon-5:00 pm_ PST & GST On All Regular Priced” __ In Our... ° —_ ~“BACK-TO’ SCHOOL w Includes Collectables SALE!
