Street Area - Public Works Committee November 4, 1986 Recommendation: That the City. take thé following actions to assist in’ reducing traffic problems in the Angelo Avenue area of the City: 1. Request the Department of Highways to change the timing of the left turn signal at Coast Meridian Road to allow more cars through in-each signal cycle. Request the Twin Cedars Development to pay for the installation of a stop sign at the driveway leading onto St. Michael Street with the City doing the installation. , 3. Refer a request for a street light at the corner of Commonwealth Street and-Imperial Avenue to the 1986 Provisional Budget. Background and Comments: The Committee had a meeting with residents of the St. Michae! Street - Angelo Avenue area to discuss the proposal for the opening of St. Michael to the Lougheed Highway. . Coune:l }. had earl.tler voted. that we investigate the possiblity wtth Department of Highways of having an Intersection at St. Michael Street. The Department of Highways has emphatically said no to any additional fntersections and this message was conveyed to the residents who attended the meeting. The residents did make several useful suggestions and these are covered In the recommendations above. The signal. timing change will make It easter for residents of this area to leave the Lougheed Highway at Coast Meridian Road rather than taking Oxford Street and this could prove to provide some relief for the residents of Commonwealth Street. The stop sign at Twin Cedars Is recommended in order to solve a localized traffic problem. It is not the City's policy to install stop signs on private driveways but the Committee felt that in this case it would be worth our while to ask the Development to pay -|- 37 aad v eaieat, Saw aad
