CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM COM ALCIL t MEMORANDUM B. Kirk, September 1, 1982 City Administrator : FROM: F.E. Peters., P. Eng., City Engineer SUBJECT: . Prairie/Shaughnessy Intersection ~ Public Works Committee, August 3ist, 1982 RECOMMENDATION: ‘That dual left-turn lanes not be installed at the intersection of Shaughnessy Street and Prairie Avenue. ’ BACKGROUND AND COMMENTS: As requested at the Council meeting of August 16th, the Committee considered the possibility of providing dual. left turn lanes from Prairie Avenue onto Shaughnessy Street. The Committee felt that the use of dual left turn lanes would increase the accident rate at the intersection and would: provide no significant advantage to traffic since all left turning traffic usually clears the intersection in one signal cycle. It was therefore felt that a dual left-turn lane should not be installed. The Committee did decide to increase the Length of yellow curb on the southeast corner of the intersection in order to provide a safe merging distant for traffic making the right turn. / “— F.E.
