December 8th, 1980. /3. with the Parks and Recreation Committee advising ef the sale of trees realizing approximately $5,000.00; requests for Senior Citizens activities, ball tournaments, hockey tournaments, figure skating, swimming, ringette and arts and crafts, plus upgrading of parks and park equipment; such as upgrading of Imperial Park, Reeve Street park lighting and a proposed parking lot; McLean Park's new backstop; Evergreen Park, top dressing and levelling; Thompson Park, new ball. diamond; Eagle Ridge Hospital has now been given the go-ahead; Port Coquitlam has a new Emergency Measures Program; and expressed his appreciation to the coordinator Mr. Bob Lajoie for the work he is doing; 1980 has also been the year of "Terry Fox" and expressed his best wishes and referred to the Firemen's Empty Stocking Fund which buys gifts for needy children at Christmas time. Alderman Keryluk expressed his appreciation to the citizens of Port Alderman Coquitlam for attending the Inaugural Ceremonies and thanked Mr. Barbush ~ Keryluk and his James Park Elementary school choir for their participation. Alderman Keryluk congratulated Aldermen Wright, Traboulay and Muldoon on their election and expressed his appreciation to retiring Alderman Ranger. Alderman Keryluk advised in 1980 he served on the Finance Committee and the Environmental Protection Committee, Local Court of Revision, Family Court Committee and the Parks and Recreation Committee and stated in his opinion it was an excellent year for participation in programs; and advised that the Figure Skating Champicnships hosted by Port Coquitlam this year is one of the largest in Canada. Alderman Keryluk advised new play equipment had been added to Sunny Park in the nature of a fire truck; Evergreen Park had been completed with sand and berms removed; with work done in Imperial Park and Thompson Park; McLean Park had a new backstop installed in front of the grandstand; referred to the completion of the Reeve Street Park and the proposed parking lot. Alderman Keryluk expressed appreciation to his co-chairman Alderman Gates for his cooperation and support and expressed his appreciation to Recreation Director K.J. Taylor and Parks Superintendent B. Hoogendoorn and the City Hall staff for their help. Alderman Keryluk advised of the work done by Mr. Keith Ballantyne regarding Light Rapid Transit which he and Alderman Gates had supported and referred to the work done with the Kinsmen Association for a proposed new recreation building at Aggie Park; and expressed his pleasure regarding the announcement of the Downtown Revitalization Committee and the possible locating of a new Court House in Port Coquitlam.
