OF MINUTES ioutes of the meeting of the Parks ld on Tuesday, March 17th, 1987, be taken A asRecreation read and Kinsmen Wateroark R .presentatives from the Kinsmen met with the Parks A Recreation Committee to further the waterpark at the proposed site of Sun discuss Park. Ken MoCargar indioated that they had Valley an architectural firm to help them designhired the waterpark for Sun Valley Park. Janna Taylor went, over the attached diagrams to indicate the possible location for the waterpark. you can see from Drawing No. 2 the p-,rk would Asbe located to the east and south of the change facilities. The rationale for this would be that during the summer months the park is only usable for water play and in the winter, it would not be usable. It was felt that there was a need to keep the existing playground for year round use. The location for the waterpark would indicate that one small mini soccer field would have to be removed; however& it was noted that this particular field was not used at this time. Another location could be found for a mini soccer field if required. The Kinsmen will raise the money to build the park and the City will construct the park. Recommendation: That the site for Valley Park. the Kinsmen waterpark be S CARRIED FH. — ~l !!,gggg[(gg~g~i ~~m'e ~m! g MAR 24 1987 p m! lm!me I — gpss ~11%+ !sic!wgllfme!!!!s —.:!IIIIII Item No. 2 Viscount Alexander Softball Diamonds Repres ntatives in attendance to meet with the Committee were Mrs. Norris, a resident from the area, Bill Murray and Bill Herbert from the PoCo Slowpitch League. Mrs. Norris indicated to the Committee that she felt that adult leagues were causing a major problem atthe the park and, furthermore, non-scheduled teams were also g the park and creating much noise during usin the weekends. She was of the opinion that adult play should not occur at all on the diamonds. also felt that the City ball should the parks. Bill Murt'ay indicat,ed that they patrol would be prepared to give two people's names as contacts in case of problems and that these phone numbers could be given to the aldermen Mrs. Norris. Bill indicated that they needed theandextra diamonds and that they did not have sufficient diamonds for their league. Janna Taylor indioated that this particular was initially intended for children's usepark and not adult use. The only reason adult use was allowed there was due to the shortage of ball diamonds; that more ball diaraonds were in existence now it was hope of the department to remove adult play the altogether from these diamonds. Allderman Laking indicated that he would be speaking with the Principal of Viscount Alexander to find out his concerns. Alderman Laking told the delegation that. they would be k Mrs. Nort is happening. pt informed as to what would be Recommendstionl That the department meet again with the user groups to determine if additional can be f ound and, also, to bring back diamonds a report to th e C ommittee and then a recommendation to City Council. Janna Taylor, Parks 6 Recreation Director Bram Hoogendoorn Parks a Facilities superintendent Sun Valley Proposed Waterpark Location ~ shown on first drawing: East side of pool building approximately 8,400 sq.ft. West side of pool area is approximately. 3,000 sq.ft. Play area including fire truck HI100 sq.ft. For the proposed water we need approximately 10,000 sq.ft. according to the playground consultant. As we can see, this would fit perfectly in the area presently occupied by our regular playground. However, taking out playground equipment which can be used twelve months of the year and replacing it with water play equipment. vhich is only +/- three months a year, noes not make sense. Besides that, approximate cost to relocate most of the dry playground equipment within the park, including preparation of a base is around $ 11,000. Another idea, as shown on the second draving, is to eliminate one mini soccer field as it is hardly used, which gives us lots of room and would not obstruct baseballI soccer or any pool business. — BH/bh NAR P 'I I lslQlil 'ee „jml I ilk 1II iiiiiI HIM.
