Sports Scope Headwinds a factor at Houston bike race CYCLISTS FROM around the Northwest converged on the Houston area Aug. 6 to take part in the 120 ki- lometre Houston Road Race. Only ten showed up for the event, but according to organizer Nipper Kettle, the racers that participa- ted did well to finish the challenging course in 28 de- gree temperatures. Strong headwinds in the second half and exhaustion took their tall on the racers. Terrace's Mike Christensen, 31, finished an top of the pack both overall and in the senicr category with a time of 3:14:40. Smithers’ Michael Jordan, 15, topped the Junior category, while Nipper Kettle topped the masters, clocking in at 3:28:45. Danielle Gourlay of Prince George was the only female competitor, finishing fifth overall with a time of 3:20:42. - oO Skating club registration to hold second sign-up REGISTRATION FOR the Terrace Skating Club’s annual schools was held on the weekend, but it’s not too late to get in some skating lessons. A second registration session will be held in the arena lobby on Saturday Sept. 2. The registration will be for the club’s fall and winter sessions of the Canskate, Seniors, Juniors, Pre-juniors, and powerskating programs.
