If you can help, phone the Terrace Community Volunteer Bureau at 638-1330 or the Salvation Army Church at 635-5446, Creativity encouraged FOUR ODYSSEY of the Mind teams from Terrace competed against 113 other teams during a provincial competition in Clearwater, B.C. on April 8. - Skeena Junior Secondary’s team came fifth in their under 15- -years-old division, _ Three teams from Cassie Hall also competed at the Odyssey of , the Mind provincials, “The kids did really well,” says Margot Hayes, one of their coaches, ‘‘It was their first time to the provincials,”’ The Odyssey of the Mind competition was organized to en- courage creative problem solving, by asking children to stretch | their minds and test their resources. At the provincials students were given a choice of long-term problems, to which they prepared answers before they arrived. Teams then presented the solution at the competition. .The competition also involved spontaneous questions. For ex- ample, ane of the Terrace teams was given a model of two dif- ferent homes, then given three minutes to prepare a sales pitch for them. One of the homes in question had only two walls and no roof, . Odyssey of the Mind teams will be starting up again next fall, ‘in the new school year.
