COUN Abus 27 1979 CEDAR DRIVE SCHOOL PARENTS ASSOCIATION 781 Pinemont Avenue Port Coquitlam, B.C. August 17, 1979. The Mayor and Council, Corporation of the City of Port Coquitlam 2272 McAllister Avenue , Port Coquitlam, B.c. Re~ Stop Signs-Prairie & Cedar Drive Interesection Dear Mayor Campbell and Council; On behalf of the "Cedar Drive Schocl Parents Association", I wish to convey to you and Council, our sincere thanks and appreciation for the recognition of a potential hazard at the above mentioned intereection, and the Prompt action taken towards elimination of the hazard and concerns of parents in the area. Feedback to myself and other members of the Association have served to confirm the correctness of the action by Council and indeed the necessity for our original request. Local press coverage of the debate of Council on the issue and subsequently published in the "Enterprise" on August 8th, attributed remarks by direct quotation, that gave inference to individuals/association as "bleeding hearts”. I wish to assure you and Council, that our motivation in this matter, arose from a sincere and genuine concern for our ‘childrens safety. In the original request, we suggested the ‘installation of stop signs, as being the least expensive at the moment, giving consideration to the fiscal restraint on civic budget. We, believe now as we did then in making the request, that we acted in a rational and responsible manner. I would trust it is the policy of Council to encourage dialcgque between itself and individuals/groups and Associations within the community. If the alderman, to whom the remarks were attributed too by the "Enterprise" was quoted out of context, then I feel it is incumbent upon that publicly elected official to correct a misrepresentation of remarks, lest other public groups within the community and including private individuals may gain the impression of alienation from those whom they elect. S. Pukesh; President Cedar Drive School Parents Association
