Page AG — Terrace Standard, Wednesday, September 5, 1980 ETTER ‘TO THE TERRACE STANDARD from. A5 ed in the Naas Valley. Tell us about ‘“‘truth and justice’, Pete. You talk about the native leaders of various kinds. Think about your own words from our native perspective and tell us you don’t see the same picture. When you talk about chieftains with. dif- ferent agendas think about the Prime Ministers and MPs; the Premiers and MLAs; the mayors and aldermen and tell us they -have the same agendas. With an attitude like yours Pete Weeber, I can already feel the atmosphere which is predominant in the” Middle Writer has bad attitude Bast and in ‘South Africa where life, unless it is your own, doesn’t matter. You speak out as the ‘champion for the non- native cause’’. Pete; I am _ proud to say that I have a lot of “non-native brothers and sisters who se¢ me-as a “human being”. Knowing Condom Dear Sir: Recently my niece and I same to Terrace to do some shopping. We were in K-Mart, when'a couple of girls came into the store, looking to buy condoms. They asked the sales assistant in the store, and she proceed- ed to tell the gir that because she was under age, she couldn’t' sell them to her. It turned out that the other girl was ‘older and therefore could buy them. I don’t know if there is a bylaw in. Terrace, but as a grandmother, I would be concerned for the girl's life, especially with the threat of AIDS in our country. I hope ° for the sake of your children in Terrace that there is no such law. [ have raised a large family and I know that the parent fears that their child may become sexually involved, but I'd rather face that and know my child is well and alive, rather than the child -eontracting AIDS and dying sales necessary in order to save lives a painful death. 1 say that condoms being sold discreetly, to these kids is a lot easier to accept than a death sentence, put on them by the adults who are unable to face the truth. I speak as a parent who has been through the mill with a large family. How come we protect the adult and count out the kids. Thanks, Mary Montgomery, Prince Rupert, Editor's Note: This was ap- parently an isolated incident. No. laws restrict condom sales, and K-Mart managers and focal pharmacists say they have no policies restric- ting sales, of condoms to teens. Wrong Dear.Sir: — What are the priorities of . our city council? Regarding the installation of a garbage recycling depot in Terrace, they have responded to the pleas of a local recycling group by do- ing nothing. priority They now want photographs of ‘‘Big Bertha’ in action. Don’t they know that “‘Big Bertha’’ never did act? When will they? " Chris Dale, Terrace, B.C. each of them allows 1 me tor see i you, as an “oddity” in our OL whole world, Tam going to ask God ‘ou.
